1939 Founding of the company Karl Schmidt Präzisions-Flugzeugteile.
1949 Start of production of water pumps and the repair of old water pumps for vehicles.
1958 Series supplier of coolant pumps for Horch, Sachsenring Zwickau and Automobilwerk Eisenach. Manufacture of oil pumps and windscreen washer systems.
1963 Development and production of mechanical seals.
1967 First gold medal at the Leipzig exhibition for water pumps for lorry diesel engines.
1972 Company is nationalised and VEB GPM is founded.
1990 Reprivatisation as Geräte- und Pumpenbau GmbH Dr. Eugen Schmidt, under managing shareholder Dr. Eugen Schmidt.
1991 First large order for the preparation of water pumps.
1996 Start of control housing production.
1997 Introduction of linked, automated production of water pumps.
1998 Series introduction of captive silicone seals.
2001 Establishment of the foreign location in Brazil. Expansion of the Merbelsrod location.
2002 Commissioning of a new production department with an R&D centre and modern test benches.
2003 Commissioning of a new production area for pump modules.
2005 Start of production of water pumps with coupling unit.
2006 Commissioning of another production area with 4,000 m².
2008 Opening of our subsidiary company GPM Automotive Pumps Suzhou, China and the GPM North America Corporation (office) in Troy, USA.
2011 In January 2011, Andreas Schmidt (managing shareholder), Ulrich Döhler and Michael Grellmann are appointed to the company management.
2012 Inauguration of a logistics centre with a central goods receiving and shipping point, and warehouse in Merbelsrod.
2015 GPM joins the NIDEC group
